Brief Personal History

     

1943

Drafted into the Army.

 

1944

Graduated from Aviation Cadet Training at Tuskegee Army Air Field on 16 October as a Second Lieutenant Flying Officer.

 

1945

Assigned to the 99th Fighter Squadron, Godman Field, Kentucky.

 

1949

One of three Primary Members of the 332nd Fighter Group Weapons Team that competed in the "First Ever" USAF Weapons Meet at   Las Vegas Air Force Base. Our Team won the event but was never recognized as the Winner until April 1995.


Shipped from Lockbourne AFB, Ohio to Misawa Air Base, Japan to an F-80 Jet squadron as a Fighter Pilot and subsequently assigned as a Flight Commander.

 

1951

Assistant Operations Officer, Instrument Instructor Pilot and Aircraft Test Pilot in the 94th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at George Air Force Base, California.

 

1955

Flying Safety Officer of the 27th NORAD Region, Norton AFB, California; received Flight Rating of "Command Pilot".

 

1956

Fighter Training Officer of North Eastern Air Command Headquarters at Pepperrell AFB, Newfoundland.

 

1959

Assistant Group Operations Officer of the 1st Fighter Group at Selfridge AFB, Michigan; Operations Officer of the 71st Fighter Interceptor Squadron flying F-102 aircraft at Selfridge AFB, Michigan.

 

1961

Assigned to Headquarters 30th NORAD Region, Truax Field, Wisconsin as a Weapons Director Staff Officer and later as Battle Staff Training Officer for the Commanding General and his staff.

 

1965

31 May, Lieutenant Colonel Harvey retired from the Military.

 

1965

7 June, he joined Oscar Mayer as a Salesman

 

1968

Promoted to District Manager of the Detroit, Michigan Distribution Center.

 

1969

Promoted to Assistant Sales Manager at the Oscar Mayer Plant in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

 

1972

Promoted to Distribution Center Manager; assigned to the Distribution Center in Denver, Colorado.

 

1980

Retired from Oscar Mayer in February. He was their "First Black" Distribution Center Manager.
