Distinguished Flying Cross

The Distinguished Flying Cross was established by Congress on 2 July 1926. Those who distinguish themselves for heroism or outstanding achievement while participating in aerial flight. Designers: Elizabeth Will and Arthur E. DuBois

On 16 October 1950, Harvey led an element of four F-80s in close support to a bomber mission under adverse weather to attack enemy troops three miles north of Yongsan, Korea. Flying with a low ceiling of 800 feet, Captain Harvey’s flight found the enemy encampment and immediately inflicted heavy damage

Signifies a U.S. service member has received the Air Medal 11 times (the initial medal plus ten subsequent awards), with each cluster representing an additional award, a common way to denote multiple achievements in aerial flight for the Army and Air Force. While the first award is the medal itself, each cluster (bronze or silver) replaces a number on the ribbon, showing significant repeated acts of heroism or extraordinary achievement in air operations

The Tuskegee Airmen, African American pilots and support personnel who fought in WWII, were collectively awarded the Congressional Gold Medal on March 29, 2007, for their unique military record that paved the way for integration in the U.S. Armed Forces. The prestigious medal, presented by President George W. Bush in the Capitol Rotunda, honors their trailblazing service, breaking racial barriers and demonstrating excellence in combat.
